Fixing your text should never damage its presentation. Version 1.7.1 of the Windows app solves two problems that could, in certain documents, do exactly the opposite: formatting that vanishes, and lines that add themselves to an email. The update installs automatically.
The problem: a heading turning back into ordinary text
Since version 1.5.1, Correctify replaces your text span by span: only the words actually corrected are changed in the document, and everything else, bold, colours, font, size, heading styles, is never touched. That is what lets a typo inside a red word stay red after correction.
This very precise mechanism has to check, before acting, that the document still matches what was copied. And that is where it broke down: the check compared Word’s internal text with the clipboard text. Yet those two versions of the same passage are not written the same way. Word counts an automatic list bullet differently, records soft line breaks with a special character, and uses non-breaking spaces before “:” or “!” as French typography requires.
The result: in a document containing a simple bulleted list or a little French punctuation, the check failed. Correctify then gave up on surgical correction and fell back to a plain paste, which wiped out all the formatting of the passage. An entire article could see its headings and font sizes reset.
The fix: compare like with like
1.7.1 changes the approach: corrections are now computed directly against Word’s own text rather than the clipboard’s. The positions to edit in the document are therefore exact by construction, with no more reliance on a fragile comparison between two different spellings of the same text.
Purely typographic differences, curly apostrophes, non-breaking spaces, French quotation marks, automatic bullets, are now recognised as equivalent: they trigger no edit at all. Your document keeps its real characters everywhere the AI changed nothing, and surgical correction applies reliably, including in structured documents.
No more lines appearing in your emails
The second fix is very visible in Outlook: soft line breaks, the ones you make with Shift + Enter in a signature or an address, could be turned into real paragraph breaks during correction. Since a paragraph carries spacing with it, the message ended up padded with line spacing nobody asked for, often noticed only once the email had been sent.
These soft breaks are now recognised and preserved as they are: your layout stays exactly as you wrote it.
And a little more speed
Internal communication between the app and Windows has also been made more reliable. On some documents an exchange could be lost because of a mishandled special character, causing a pointless wait of about six seconds before the correction even started. That is fixed, and accented characters can no longer be mangled in fallback situations.
How to get it
If Correctify is already installed, there is nothing to do: the app checks for new versions on its own and installs the update in the background, then shows you what changed on restart. You can also force a check from the tray icon, via “Check for updates”.
